I'm looking forward to a trip out here in October, and maybe one earlier. Do you have any suggestions as to other peaks in this part of the Wichitas that you've seen and were interested in? I'm going to try and do the six over the next 3 or 4 months, and am wandering if there are any lower ones in the area that you would recommend. Thanks, and excellent page!

The only other peak that I would recommend would be Charons Garden Mountain. It is below 2,000 ft. but still named. You could probably get to it in a traverse from Granite Mountain or you could hike around to the south of Granite and then access Charons Garden Mountain from the north. I'll see if I can find one and post it on the Mt. Mitchell page. I think I took a picture of it from there. Thanks for the vote.

I added the picture. Here is Charons Garden Mountain from the summit of Mt. Mitchell.

Also, for some more climbing, you could climb the other sub-summits on the Mt. Mitchell massif. Here is a picture of the other peaks on the Mt. Mitchell massif.

I would say my least favorite of the 6 2,000 ft. summits was Sunset Peak. Only because I summited all 4 sub-summits and there were some very intense areas of bushwacking. If you wanted to do one of the summits of Sunset, do the one that is furthest south. You can access this one from the trail going to Crab Eyes and Mt. Mitchell.

A traverse from Twin Rocks to Mt. Mitchell would be cool too. I intended to do this traverse but ran out of water. I had to go back to my truck, reload on water, and then do Mt. Mitchell and Sunset from the northern parking lot.

I just got back from a trip in which I did the Granite to Charons Garden Mountain traverse. A page is in the works--thanks for pointing Charons out to me, it was an excellent climb.

Great page with lots of info! Seeing the red granite I wonder if it is of the smooth, round type or rather the bizarre "tafoni" type like here?
