Very nice. I'd never heard of this peak and will have to check it out. It looks like a long but potentially avalanche-safe winter ascent.

Yes, I think it's more interesting in the off season. Thanks for your vote!

Another nice page, Brent. So you know, this peak is listed on Gerry Roach's site as Red Deer Mountain.

Thanks for your vote, and for the pointer to Roach's page. I've fixed the name of the peak accordingly. Interesting that of the 55 summits Roach lists, less than half are on SP.

Nice page. It is good to see the lesser known niches of the Indian Peaks covered. Thanks for sharing the information. Nice photos too. You might want to include the apellation "Red Deer Mountain" in the title. I certainly preffer "unofficial" names to point such and such. Last july I combined Sawtooth with Algonquin. This is nice tundra walking along the continental divide.

Thanks for you vote and for pointing out the unoffical appellation. I've fixed the page accordingly. I agree that "Red Deer Mountain" is a better name than Point 12,319. I simply didn't know about it. Fortunately, you and Ryan noticed it.

My Plan A for yesterday was in fact to go to Algonquin, and, in preparation, I had studied your nice photos on the Sawtooth page. However, I started a bit late and had to be back early, and the prospect of several miles off trail in an area I didn't know, in snow that in some places was more than a foot deep, quickly convinced me to go with Plan B. I have no regrets--it was a wonderful day--but I'll go back some other time for Sawtooth and Algonquin.

BTW, I was considering coming down via the Coney Lakes and close the loop at Coney Flats. Is that what you did?

That shot of Coney Flats brings back good memories. Nice area, I need to get back up in there.

Coney Flats was the only place from which I got an unobstructed, albeit distant, view of Ogalalla. There's apparently a law of Nature that says that no matter where I go the best photo subjects are backlit. On Red Deer Mountain I was hoping to defeat this law, but then the low clouds came to its rescue...

Thanks for your vote.
