Hasn't voted | As of September 2008, roads are really bad and washed out to base of Big Hatchet. I had a Toyota 4X4 and was in four wheel drive most of the way. Did not make it into the canyon. Stopped two miles plus below mountains. Roads were really bad; bring a shovel and good spare tire with air pump.Don't even think of driving a car. Watch your speed on the local highways. I got stopped for doing 60mph in a 55 zone. Very beautiful area. Be sure and bring along a firearm. This is only a few miles from the Mexican border and very big drug smuggling area. Oh, we never climbed Big Hatchet, but hiked several miles into canyon.
