NIce page and photos! I had considered putting this one up, but had pretty poor luck with photography.

Believe it or not, this was the third attempt for me to put this one up. I kept asking myself if this was a worthy peak but I finally realized that it was special not just because it is a county highpoint but it is another neat destination for people close to Portland and Vancouver. I'm sorry to hear your pics didn't come out and this page could sure use some more. Consdier writing a trip report for the hike being done in the snow, that would be worth a read and quite a contrast from my mid summer experience. Thanks for your vote and comments.

Another item of historical interest that you may or may not want to include is that this peak was named in 1906 by R.S. Shelley of the Forest Service after a large Buck he found sunning himself on the summit - According to "Oregon Geographic Names".

That is a great piece of information. I'll add it to how the peak got its name. Thank you for that.

I've heard that about the mountains in Oregon. One of my pals who went backpacking there told me it had the "feel" of the southern Apps.

Thanks a bunch for the nice comments and the vote. How's the weather down there in Medford? It is snowing here in Kennewick.

Overcast with light rain today however we have had snow on the ground the past three weekends which is not normal here. Jacksonville and other cities received more snow than we did.

I wanted to give you 3 stars because you poked fun at us Portlanders but your page is too good. And because.........um............I had never heard of this one. (Damn, it hurts to admit that.)

Thanks Brian (I think). I have a daughter who lives in Portland so I had to educate my son in law and his brother about Oregon geography. The two of them are always up to a hike but the two I've done with them were 15 milers and now they really don't like going with me. When you get really bored for something to do sometime, give Buck Peak a thought.
