Voted 10/10 | Looks as if the fishing is pretty good and probably has Carolina Hemlock as well as Canadian Hemlock. I found Buzzards roost. 2 maps northwest from Benn Knob and it is 2980 feet. Nice page Bob- outlier areas are interesting. | |

Hasn't voted | Thanks! The fishing is supposedly excellent in there. I came out of the park very late--toward dark, and my truck was the only vehicle left in the parking lot. A ranger saw me putting my pack and telescoping my trekking pole and thought I had been in there fishing and was trying to sneak out. She blocked my truck and wanted to know if I'd been fishing. I guess from a distance she thought my daypack was a basket and my trekking pole was a fly rod. One reason I've been suspicious of park literature claiming that Benn Knob is the highest point in the park is that I've read that there are several points in the park that are over 1,000 meters. Also, standing on the summit of Benn Knob, I could see peaks that looked higher. | |

Hasn't voted | Oh. Forgot to mention. The hemlocks are, in large areas of the park, the dominant tree (both species). If the Helock wooly adelgid hits this area (as I fear it must) it's going to be especially devastating. I hiked through groves that were easily 50% to 60% hemlock. | |
