The cloud cover wasn't too bad when I first hit the summit. Later in the evening it got pretty thick and by about 3:00 am or so there was sleet and freezing rain. Temperatures went up pretty fast after about 8:00 am and it all melted.
It's a spectacular peak. I'm glad the views were still to be had when I got up there. If you do go, the trap door on the room at the top of the firetower has come loose and you can go up there, but I would definitely not recommend it. I took one look at that floor and retreated--very rotten. The Park Service apparently only uses that tower for some meteorological readings and they don't seem to care if the top rots away.
