I just saw this interesting show on TV about the possibility of one of these Canary Island volcanoes sluffing a big chunk into the sea and causing a killer Tsunami. Fascinating but the key thing is not to be climbing on that particular part when it sluffs. : )) Kind of like not climbing on Mt. St. Helens when it blew up back in 1980. You probably would've landed in Spokane.
Thanks Dean! You would certainly know beforehand. The western part of La Palma will only slide away if there are heavy earthquakes associated with volcano eruptions. One qould certainly want to stay on the eastern side of the island. On Pico de la Nieve you would most certainly have a great view of what would be going on. But there's is no danger there - on the caldera rim - since volcanic activity only occurs in the southern part of the island.
Thanks Klaus! We met some British people who said that in the 7 or 8 years they had come to La Palma during the winter they had never seen any snow up there...
