Hasn't voted | Thanks! Yeah. I took that one from near where I camped on Green Knob, adjacent from Sam Knob across 215, the road that separates Shining Rock WIlderness from Middle Prong Wilderness. I'll probably repost it when I do my Green Knob post. By the way, that's Flat Laurel Creek winding beside Sam Knob. There's a fine trail that follows the creek, with many hundreds of great campsites. | |

Hasn't voted | Yeah, I had planned on hitting Black Balsam on the second night of my trip. However, the hike in to Middle Prong Wilderness, where I camped on Green Knob, took so much out of me that it was all I could do to get back to my truck at the trailhead and drive home. Toughest trails I've hiked since the Black Mountain Crest Trail. Basically, my eyes were bigger than my energy level when I was looking at my topo trail map. Set goals that were not realistic. | |

Hasn't voted | Thanks! Yes, it's one of my favorite summits, now. Very unique place here in the South. The double summit top is really nice. Makes you have to hit them both, although it's obvious which one is the taller. | |
