That last bit of ridge to the summit looks nice. Kudos, Pete.

Good page! I agree that the Desert Peaks Section Road and Peaks Guide to some of is a great guide and well worth purchasing if you're interested in the peaks on their list.

Good page! The overview section could be longer. No need to imitate Klenke's or my mini novels but there just might be more information. And I'm sure you know it :-)

Questions that come to my mind:

  • Why is it called Mitchell? Not Mitchell Peak or Mount Mitchell? Who was the guy?

  • Where is the mountain? Are there any knowlegable other peaks around?

  • What kind of rock? From the sig pic it looks like limestone. Is it?

  • What did they mina at Bonanza King?

Starting at the paved Essex-to-Mitchell Cavern road, the "Blair Bros" dirt road was bladed as of Oct-27-2007, and was in great shape for the first ~5 miles. However, at the fork where one goes left (the right fork is the Blair Bros PRIVATE road), the road is very rough, HC 4WD recommended. One could drive a short ways up the rough roud -- as far as practical -- and just hoof it the rest of the way to the BK mine site (2.3 - to 1.3 miles, depending on where you give up).

    Gary SchenkBcountry permit

    Hasn't voted

On Sunday, March 22, the ranger at the caverns told us we should have filled out a backcountry permit before climbing Mitchell and Edgar. He wasn't too torqued about it, though.
