Unless you like reedy lakes, don't take the Lost Lake approach to the East Side. You can save about 4 miles by scrambling up steep class 2 terrain directly above the "Emerald Pool" at the top of Vernal Falls. Go across the footbridge above Vernal Falls and turn left off the trail after about 200 yards. Contour below the prominent cliff band until you can access the low angle slabs above the pool. Once you hit the oaks and bay trees again, just take the path of least resistance up and slightly left. As you get higher up you will intersect with the Lost Lake approach at the point where the cliff band is bisected. From there, get onto the ridge and look down at Grizzly Peak.
