The La Plata Canyon Road is covered with some great material to just past Boron Creek, and is smooth to that point. Then, the road is in great shape for a 2WD vehicle, and my civic made it to nearly the "trailhead". There are some rough spots, but nothing I couldn't negotiate. Evidence of a bulldozer is still on the road. Then, the trail road is no longer marked with a sign for Tomahawk Basin, or at least I didn't see one while hiking the canyon road. There is a USFS brown sign for RD 499, which should be the road up to the basin. I ended up driving so far, and hiking past the road end never got up to the basin, but I did hike the road to the pass. It was smoky over by Lavender, so no matter.
"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."
