According to the Forest Rangers, mountain biking is allowed on the Methow River Trail to the junction with the PCT. Biking is not allowed past this onto the PCT in either direction. Although a shorter ride, this would still provide eight miles of trail on a bike for the approach.
We mistakenly believed our map's notation that this is a trail. My prediction that we'd be to Azurite Mine within an hour and a half became four and one half hours following about a one mile hike through an old forest burn and about two miles through severely overgrown and unmaintained (for ten + years?) trail. Go Methow River Trail!
This trail has not been bikable in years, and it is slowly disappearing completely. It's quite horrible just to walk on. If you're doing Azurite consider hiking in from the PCT at Harts Pass
Interesting. I had thought that trail was a popular enough mountain biking destination for those that like to engage in that activity.
So I looked up some information. It seems about a year ago the conditions were reported as saying 3 years had gone by w/o maintenance and that maybe volunteer clean-up crews maybe will go out there. source
So I think I'll leave the route description up for now.
Trip report from September 20th on peakbagger.com states that the Methow has been recently cleared and is in good shape until the last mile and a half or so.

Re: Methow Creek Trail is GONEThanks. The route appears to come and go with the mosquitoes.
