Good info. Any idea though of the length and elevation gain of the trails?

I give rough distances in the Trails Summary section. Elevation gain is a bit tricky for the ridge trails, which rise and fall over several bumps - I'll have to check the White Mountain Guide and other sources. In general though, all the trailheads are around 1500 feet, so we're talking about a 2500 foot gain for a straightforward approach like Bunnell Notch Trail.

If you approach from the north (Unknown Pond), the Kilkenny Ridge trail adds maybe 500 feet by passing over the Horn and the Bulge.

If you approach from Willard Notch, you're addding about 1000 feet by passing over Terrace Mountain.

Nice page on one of the lesser known 4000 footers.

Good page. The cabin is a cool thing, do you know of other free cabins in the Whites?

Later, Rob

None that I know of. Most of the AMC lean-tos are free in the off-season, and the RMC's "log cabin" shelter is only $5 year-round. The RMC's true cabins are $10. The AMC cabins start at $25 during self-service times, but jump to $87 on summer saturdays.

Superior work. Sounds like a nice day in the woods with all of those critters. When I do this I hope to camp out for a night. Cheers.
