What is it with these people? Sheesh. This is a three star page as-is, but I'll give you four to counteract the grumpy curmudgeons here. This is an important Maine mountain and the information should be out there for the world to see, even if it's not prettied up with photos.

If you add your photos using the link within the Overview section (instead of from the Photos page), they'll show up in the Overview without any need for Puma to Attach them.

I know... since it isn't my page I didn't want to stick the pictures where the maintainer might not want them. I figured I'd upload into the photos section and let puma place them where he/she likes.

I love your photos injektilo! I have text written for the Crockers and could do Spaulding and Reddington as well. Do you have good photos of these peaks?

I have a few pics of Spaulding but not many... as for the Crockers and Redington, I don't think I have any.

I'll look and see what I can find. If I don't find much I may have to take a trip up to what ever mountains you post and get some pictures!

Again, the Sugarloaf page is looking good.

Cool. I feel like such a photo mooch. I thnk I'll try to put the Crockers up tomorrow or Tuesday and hope for the best. It's a 7 hour drive for me and I've hit these mountains enough that I can't justify going back just for pics. Perhaps RobA might snap a few during his ski trip.

I've noticed Vermont is even more deficient than Maine ... fortunately, it's close enough that I might go back for some pics so that I can do pages without begging for pictures.

Again, I really like your photos. The one I put up as the signature really captures the mountain, IMHO.

hgrapidWind energy

There are plans to build a 90 MW wind farm nearby Sugarloaf Mountain. Are the winds in the area that good? 90 MW is enough to power about 25,000 homes. That's pretty good considering Maine's small population. Looks like this project, on its own, could provide over 2% of Maine's energy.

Well, the Reddington wind project has been in the works for years and I'm convinced it's never going to happen. There's a funky weather tower near the Reddington summit that has collapsed (twice I think) and been rebulit. It was there in 2000 when I climbed Reddington and it certainly wasn't anything new then.

This has been a hot button issue in the Northeast hiking community for some time and brings up some interesting issues. Which is more important ... conservation on the local level or alternative energy production on a grand scale? I don't know. I used to be a big proponent of wind energy but have started to question whether we really need to "deface" mountain environments to do it.

If you navigate your way over to viewsfromthetop.com and go to the Q&A section, there is a current thread on page 2 with another link to a year-old thread. There's been a lot of blabbering about this for a long time. In the abovementioned thread, SP member injetkilo makes the point that Maine already produces more energy than it consumes. So who would this project serve ... Maine's energy needs or America's? I think Maine should look out for Maine and do what is in its own best interest.
