Hasn't voted | Thank you very much desainme! That POTW must be a joke - somebody with the connections must be into that sort of thing ;) Yeah, it's a nice area. The side canyon behind Lighthouse/Big Bend Butte looks like it's pretty small though (looking at the topozone map). But there might be ways to top out on the main cliff (mesa?) as well as stuff in other side canyons to explore. | |

Hasn't voted | Hi Lolli, Have not done anything alpine there. The LaSal's that overlook Castle Valley etc.. look quite beautiful. There's quite a few here on SP (left margin of the page lists them). Post a info. request on the SW US message borad here on SP and I'm sure there's lots of folks who've done tons of stuff there and can help you better. For hikes.....If you're looking for just a relaxing 1/2 day hike, I'd highly recommend hiking up to the base of The Priest - or at least as far as the saddle between Castleton and The Rectory. Amazing views of Castle Valley as well as Fishers Towers. Also, did only 1 trip into Canyonlands but that was unforgettable as well. I can imagine they have endless hiking opportunities. Some easy hikes in Arches are also quite beautiful (never really got deep into backcountry there though). Good luck and enjoy the great area! | |
