Day 3 - There is also a third path from Tharepati, starting out North past the viewpoint. This high route goes directly to the foot of Laurebina La pass. It is quite narrow, there are some landslides and it is quite dangerous if there is any snow at all. Also there are no houses or lodges between Tharepati and the foot of the pass. But the views are truly fantastic! And you can walk between Tharepati and Gosainkund in one day this way.
Do you mean between Tharepati and Gosainkund or between Gosainkund and Tharepati? I´m sure the latter is ok but to do all the way from Tharepati over the pass to Gosainkund would be quite a tour de force!
Anyway, I think the high route you´ve suggested might shorten the thing, but I remember that it is described as being quite dangerous also in "Trekking in Nepal" by Stephen Bezruchka. Please post some further details concerning actual walking times, etc.
>Do you mean between Tharepati and Gosainkund or between Gosainkund and Tharepati?
Probably either way. I did it from Gosainkund to Tharepati. After crossing the Laurabina La you soon reach a lone house/lodge (was closed this time of year) where the trail forks: the route you described and the high trail I`m mentioning.
>the high route you´ve suggested might shorten the thing
If I had to `suggest` it, it would be more for the views and not the speed.
>it is described as being quite dangerous
Agreed

Left Gosainkund around 7 in the morning. Strong winds over the pass. Took a break at the aforementioned house. Started on the high trail, crossing some landslides and quite a few sections of ice. Arrived in Tharepati just as the sun went down.
