Voted 10/10 | Thanks for adding this page, it is a nice addition to SP. To me, a prominence peak chaser, West Onion Peak is the real prize as it is higher than the main peak at 3076 feet as you show on your great map. It ranks #34 out of the 73 Oregon Prominence peaks with a promince of 2356. Bob Bolton and Dennis Poulin have both done West Onion and my attempt failed last fall when the timber company people turned me around since they were doing blasting work in the area about two miles in from the gate. I'm learning to do these timber land peaks on the weekend. Facing down logging trucks can be a scary experience. This one is best done on the weekend and of course my intent is to do both West Onion and Onion Peak. Hasn't voted | Thanks Dean! Yeah, I saw Greg Slayden's spot on WOP on my preliminary search for information. It's just about the only info I found, on the web, covering this area. I plan to do a little more in this area. Angora Peak looks very interesting, as well as West Onion Peak. | |

Voted 9/10 | Hey Karl, nice page. Maybe you could modify it to include West Onion so I can sign the summit log! ;-) That's what I did with the Red Mountain and Point 8134 page. I too didn't care about the named summit because it is lower. Paul Klenke visits named summits. I don't have time for them, so I work on my priority lists such as P2Ks. I'd say we should start planning our assault on Schreiner Peak! Have you checked out the roads up that way recently? We should tackle it while there's still snow covering the brush! -Bob | |

Voted 10/10 | I got excited to see something new in the northern Coast Range to do but then I saw your comment: "I just found out this gate, and about a mile inside the gate, is now owned by Stimson Lumber. They had advised me there is absolutely NO ENTRY past the gate. Not even during hunting season." F...ing bullshit! Sucks. | |

Hasn't voted | Yeah...Onion Peak is located at the edge of the Clatsop State Forest. A public area surrounded by private timber land. Now that's "F...ing bullshit"! My attitude...I ain't afraid of no gate... | |
