Voted 10/10 | Now that topozone has been basically lost as a useful resource, it might be helpful to plug your gps coordinates into your route. Dennis Poulin and I just did the hike but rather than parking at the locked gate, we found a spot more towards Lolamai Point, off the road in some trees where we could car camp and keep our vehicles out of view as well as possible. That made our hike a bit longer and with a couple route finding errors on our part on the way in, we ended up with a 15.6 mile hike, 1200 feet of elevation gain and a 7 hour round trip effort to get this one.
We did go to Kayenta BM where we found a 2005 register placed. The BM is 1.05 miles from the cohp. Your information was really helpful and except for the one wrong turn we made, we probably were fairly close to the way you went. I've attached a map (in two parts) of the way we went. I wish I had taken more pics now. |
