
Voted 10/10 | I found it interesting to learn how the strange name of Dixie Butte came to be. The area was named by Civil War rebels who came to eastern Oregon in 1865. Here they established gold mining claims along Dixie Creek, just north of the present day town of Prairie City. I found a link that has this information:
