Hasn't voted | Eh, don't run away from our word game. Right now I'm in a veeery bad condition to understand anything. Just returned from a basketball game and I have some 4 beers in my ass... So, I understand the Italian word is tipo, not tippo. Bene. About the page name - Dolomiti di oltre Piave would not be good for the whole area. I think also locally it is used only for the area around Val Cimoliana, which really looks like somewhere in 'real Dolomites'. Mountains towards the East are much different. But I understand that the name Carnic Alps is used in Italy in a very limited scope - really only for the Carnic Main Ridge - the one on the border between Italy and Austria. Again 'Dolomiti Friulane' is a new term, probably constructed mostly on behalf of its Parco Naturale. I don't know, really. All I know is, that these mountains are fine enough to be paralelled with all other popular mountain groups in Alps. I was in Kaisegebirge, Gesaeuse, Mieminger group etc. and all these limestone Alps are no more attractive than these Prealpi Carniche. That's why I was arguing about the name 'Prealpi'. They are real Alps. Otherwise Carnia has a special flavor, at least for me. Nice mountains, but not very popular or modern, a genuine approach to mountaineering, special people. With my wife we are walking-up fast, even now after being 50. But, in Slovenia we are so proud of our mountaineering tradition, have (and had) some great climbers, but then all times in our routes are exaggerated, easy ferratas are called hard, etc. When we came in Carnia, it was said 1h 15min for an ascent of 550m. Correctly and fair. But from this you can see who is using those paths. Many routes are left unprotected. No steel at all. You feel as if locals would like to preserve their mountains. In Slovenia such approach can be found only in mountains around Trenta valley. I must get some sleep... I'd like we had such naming debates on the forum. Voted 10/10 | "You can mobilise your Italian fellow SP-ers" ??? the only one that could be involved is Tiziana (that, unfortunately, knows only the ranges surrounding her home) Some others (Andrea, Allari ecc) have got know knowledge of central and western alps, many others are TBVPT (tourists-bottom-valley-picture-takers), you can see how difficult is to describe the western part of the alps ! As for naming: the range you're speaking about is normally considered as belonging to eastern dolomites (here we don't have the dolomite splitted into 2 main ranges) : so we could discuss how to manage them ... I think that the best solution could be managing the single groups, just as we've done till now. | |

Voted 10/10 | I think Carnic Pre-Alps is correct. Berti calls them Dolomiti Orientali, which would be also correct because the geological origin is the same of the Dolomites. Dolomiti Friulane it's wrong because some important mountains of the group are situated in Veneto ( like Monte Cridola ). The best thing would be to have one page for every group ( Spalti di Toro, Monfalconi, Duranno-Cima dei Preti, Caserine-Cornaget, Pramaggiore, Cridola-Miaron, Raut-Resettum, Col Nudo-Cavallo ), but I know it's not easy. Well, in the next days we'll have some new mountains for this group, I think it's a very good thing. Fabrizio | |
