lisaeRating question?

Voted 10/10

I am ignorant when it comes to the rating system on via Ferrata routes. Can you explain what you mean by a difficulty of 'D' or point me to a good website?

Thanks!

Hi lisae,
In Europe are different types for rating a via ferrata. Kurt Schall, Eugen Hüsler, etc. But all have something in common. All are structured in 5 steps. To make it easier they have classified it with letters: A - B - C - D - E

It is like:
A - less difficult
B - little difficult
C - difficult
D - very difficult
E - extrem difficult

A-E says only something about the steepness and the power you need in your arms.

Look here:
http://www.via-ferrata.de/alpinismus/schwierigkeit.php

Don´t mistake this "D" with the french "D" for "difficle" for alpine climbing! To make a via ferrata "D" isn´t as hard and objectivly unsafe as the french one.

I hope I could help you and you understood my bad english. ;-)
