Damien GildeaMap ?

Big, very good page, though a map would be muy useful. I was getting totally confused reading your (correct) directions to the peak and had to get the map out.

I attempted Peak 6005, north of the Lupghar Pir, from the NE, from the place marked as Wain on the Swiss map, in July 2001. What is Ghorhil Sar marked as on that map ?

I've just altered the text a little to try and make things clearer. The peak isn't actually surveyed on the Swiss map unfortunately. I'd really like to look at a Soviet map to see if this peak's got a quoted height. We only had an altimeter ulfortunetly so couldn't be any more specific than c.5800m. I'll check the whereabouts compared to peaks that are surveyed on the Swiss map and get back. I'll try to add a map at some point soon as like you say it is hard to describe the whereabouts of a peak where I don't know the names of some of the surrounding glaciers. I think the placement on the Google map is right by the way. Lee

I checked... Ghorhil Sar is the peak immediately SE from Peak 6055m on the Swiss map which itself is south of the Lupgar Pir Pass. Peak 6055m is the peak to the right of Ghohil Sar in my photos.

OK, I see where you mean now - just west of 5417 ? I probably saw 6055 when I was there but I can't remember it. I was more taken by the N face of Kuk Sar II, of which I have quit similar photos to you !

I'm 90% going back to Pakistan this year, but doubt I'll get back to Chapursan. A pity, as it's an amazing place. That Google map shows just how green it is compared to the other valleys. I stayed with Alam Jan also, and hired the famous Haji Baig, of 'Haiji Baig's Camp' to carry a load for me one time.

Yes, that's the one. Peak 5417 is in this picture for the record.

I'm thinking about returning to the Karakoram myself this year but if I go it will be late sept/oct as I think this is a better time for stuff I've got in mind in the Hispar area. I think Yates/Parkin had the right idea when they tried Hispar Sar this time of year.
