Hasn't voted | I tried going up toward the left side of the headwall. Although it is a little less steep than to the right, I topped out on inpentrable brush on the top of the headwall. I tried traversing high along the headwall towards the peak but it was way too dicey. I ended up downclimbing the way I had come up and then traversed over to a line up the headwall more toward the right. The fact that the headwall had an icy film alternating with the loose dirt made any route difficult. But certainly Galena is worth a visit. | |

Voted 10/10 | ...good tribute to one of SoCal's more obscure adventures. For some reason, I drove in from LA just to scramble up this headwall, back in 1990. Recall stemming up a dirt/rock chute in leather mountaineering boots. Great waterfall viewing on the hike in, among tiny lingering "glaciers" ...weeks before, a Boy Scout had vanished off San Gorgonio--I remember keeping an eye out for him (he was never found). --Steve | |
