The latest (Dec 12/2009) regs say camping is not allowed on "Racetrack Road (from Teakettle Junction to Homestake Dry Camp)."

I presume that means that camping is allowed between the end of the 2-miles restriction for the crater, and Teakettle Junction.

Camping isn't allowed from the Crater to Teakettle Junction. People still do camp along the road between the Crater and Teakettle Junction once it's dark because they don't usually have a big enough ranger staff to patrol the roads at night. If you want to camp legally, a nice place to camp is here:
