Glad I checked it out--lots of "colorful" (to say the least!) history around these parts! Since the Gash folks were pretty much at the bottom of the local social-status hierarchy, any idea as to why their name was deemed fit for attaching to the Bitterroot Mountains?
It seems their name was applied to the creek first, then as often happens in these here parts, to the mountain closest to the creek. Doesn't exactly make sense, but then what does?
