I think, however, that the Charles H. Deam Wilderness--across a small reservoir from Bloomington, Indiana--may have you beat for "closest wilderness to a city."

The Deam is pathetic, but that's beside the point. It's a federally-designated wilderness nonetheless.

But you've given me another reason to move to Missoula . . .
