The ChiefNo RETROBOLTING !

Voted 10/10

There were NO BOLTS ADDED to this route nor any route during the ASCA's REBOLT work done in 03/01. Some were actaully deleted from this and two other routes with Jorge's permission. We replaced a total of 39 bolts on DWT's. Jorge was always onboard (and even present on some routes) with all the work that we did on the entire Black Velvet Wall that involved his routes during that March '01 ASCA Rebolt project which involved the replacement of well over 200+ bolts.

*You can always skip bolts and place pro.

PS: Nice page on a route that is very very very close to my heart with very fond memories of well over 20 trips, first one being in May of '81.

Thorough description and photos (versus just a regurgitation of the guidebook). Thanks for your efforts.

No, no sign of them thinking about it either, I was there yesterday, did Overhanging Hangover (wicked roof) and Gobbler. Still only advise high clearance vehicle. You are welcome to grab one of mine if you need it. Interesting, I suppose folks think it is too hot, but yesterday we had all of Black Velvet Canyon to ourselves, from morning to evening, not another soul. Never seen that before. No climbers on Frongland either, not another vehicle or human on the road in or in the parking area. In reality, the canyon was perfect...long sleve wind shirt in afternoon. So I advise a visit mid May to be sure. 95F in Vegas if perfect climbing back here still. The refrigerator effect of the canyon is quite real. Cheers Radek.

Thanks Dow!
Yeah, we've done stuff in RR in June & July (I believe) & things were just perfect on shady routes: no crowds & quite comfortable....anyway, I probably shouldn't spray about that fact on a pbulic forum ;)
Take care Dow!
