Thank you so much, Lolli. This is one of my favorite places. Come see it. I still need to see your beautiful Scandinavia.

This page has as many wonderful photographs as any page I've yet seen on SP. TERRIFIC JOB! Good job on peak ID's, too....

I found your comment on the wind to be quite apropos, as the only time in my life I was actually lifted off my feet was in crossing Chief Lodgepole and Two Medicine Pass--this with a full pack! Not an experience I care to repeat...I fully understand the bit about crawling....

Vernon, I really appreciate that, considering how devoted you are to Glacier. I hope the James, Ahern, and Iceberg pages pass muster, too!

Thank you; I appreciate it. I'm having a great time out in Montana right now and have enjoyed making these pages almost as much as I enjoyed climbing the mountains. Well, not really almost as much as. But I have enjoyed it.

Thank you, Moni. It's also good to know there are others who realize the Edwards guide is a good resource but has its share of flaws. It is certainly not as good a guide as the man was a climber. At least from this page, you know it's shorter than Edwards says, and you know about the real highpoint. I hope you get out there.

I am not sure Edwards climbed everything in the book but relied on others giving him info. There are plenty of places where Fred and I disagree with the route description. You might also contact the current editors of the guide with your description - it is my understanding they are interested in corrections and improved descriptions.

Thanks for the suggestion; I just might do that. While I haven't climbed as extensively in Glacier as you and Fred have, I, too, have already found a few discrepancies between the book and the actual routes and conditions.

that's good to know. in my one season of serious hiking/climbing at glacier, i definitely noticed some things that need to be modified in the next edition. i'll have to look into it.

FlatheadNativeGlacier Boat Company on Sinopah

Voted 10/10

I totally agree with you Bob about the boat ride not being worthwhile especially if you are climbing near Two Medicine Pass. I would not use the launch for traveling in either direction if climbing near Two Medicine Pass. The late start time also complicates this option for approaches to Dawson Pass as well.

It saves no time and there is unnecessary elevation gain from the junction to the boat launch on the upper end of the lake when compared to just walking back along the generally flat southern shore of Middle Two Medicine Lake to the trailhead. The trail to the launch climbs along the eastern flanks of Sinopah and actually gets a ways above the lake before descending back to the boat launch. You also must factor in time waiting for the launch as well as a nearly overcrowded boat that sometimes requires two trips to transfer those tourists who can not walk around the lake.

On the other hand, the boat ride is not worth the time but definitely worth the view.

I hear you. When I hiked to Cobalt Lake and then Two Medicine Pass with my wife six years ago, we took the boat across and found that the extra hiking that entailed really did not shorten the trip much. When I did Painted Tepee, I skipped the boat entirely and had no regrets. The only time I've found the boat useful is when heading to Upper Two Medicine Lake. If I ever get around to doing Lone Walker, I'll probably use the boat and just hope for good weather all day.

It would be useful for Upper Two Medicine but the walk around the north side of the lake is pretty darn enjoyable too.

My biggest issue witht he boat was having to wait rather than just beat feet it down the trail to the trailhead and too many people for my liking. I climb to avoid the crowds not ride in a boat with them.
