Voted 10/10 | I agree that the West Ridge is a fine route. I'm glad it has a home on SP. It's shame that the old standard route was ever popular. It also mystifies me! Comparing an enjoyable sojourn up the creek and the short slope to reach the West Ridge vs. a 1200' climb up a steep slope, I'd think the former would have been the obvious choice. | |

Hasn't voted | I will be up that valley this summer and was discouraged by the thought of driving all the way back to highway 50 to do Shavano first. I prefer route-finding to established trails, so having the opportunity to do so on a 14 will be a treat. Thanks for the report and for the validation that the mountain can still be climbed from this side. | |
