regarding your previous comment on Cathedral Gorge.

What a fascinating group of formations! And, it BEATS running
into a group of obnoxious tourists, which would ultimately be the
case at Lake Mead, Zion, Bryce or Grand Canyon.

Have you been to Great Basin NP yet, Bob? Its truly a beautiful
place, far-removed from the crowds and complete with "bat guano
caves" and "rock glaciers."

Sounds like it might be your kind of place. Take care, Bob!!!

Larry, I love Great Basin. It's like a little slice of the Rockies without the crowds you find in the parks there. Absolutely beautiful.

Thanks, Larry!

Strangely enough, even though I've driven by there many times. I've always been in a hurry to get somewhere else, riding with people who want to get someplace else really quickly. Maybe I'll make a special effort to camp there one day, when I'm not in such a hurry.

It's a beautiful place to spend a night and just roam around for a few hours. There's a lot of incredible scenery packed into a small area. I'd like to get back and check out those narrow canyons, which I didn't know about when I visited back in 2001.

"It's beautiful country to some people, myself included, possessed of the subtle beauty of endless skies and lonely places,....."

I think I´d include myself in that group too!
Thanks for that

If that's what Jordan looks like, I think I'd like a look. I have a co-worker from Jordan, and she hates the long trip there. Too bad air tickets aren't transferable these days...

Thanks, Charles!

been there many times. Great stuff!

By the way, the drive from LV to Great Basin is only 4 hours.

You're right; I took another look at the mileage and found it's less than 300 miles. I probably also forgot about the 70 mph speed limits. Changed.

Thanks!

Some people STOP to gas up near Cathedral Gorge, then they continue
moving north or south.

I live right outside of Sedona. (You guessed it! It's where John
McCain has a house.)

Where was I?? Anyway, there's a huge Visitor Center on the
south side of Sedona. Some people stop there, then they
continue on their way, WITHOUT seeing SEDONA.

[So many mountains .... so little time!]

That's all the better for those who do know and love Sedona!

Stumbled upon Cathedral Gorge in the early ninties with my brother while driving through Nevada. We had decided to take it slow and stopped at quite a few interesting places along the way of which Cathedral Gorge was one. Thanks for reminding me of some of the good times we had and unexpected surprises we encountered on that trip. Don

Don, thanks for taking the time to read the page and comment. I'm glad it stirred the memories.

This place looks like a miniture version of as Charles above said, Jordan and Death Valley, Goblin Forest SP, Bryce and discarded scraps from Fear & Loathing...
Good pictures, good info.
I can't say when the next time will be when I can get out that way but I'm definately keeping this page in my road atlas.
A nice surprise.
Thanks, Bob.

Thanks, Kiefer, and you're welcome. I can't compare to Jordan since I've never been there, but I can tell you that the texture of the place is much like those Goblins in Utah. Neat stuff.

Thanks for the look and the comment, Gangolf. That's another nice Tenerife page from you. I'd really like to see that place; you have certainly represented it well on this site.
