meglaMt Lozere

Voted 10/10

I have this data:
Mont Lozère (1702 m)
Mont Aigoual (1567 m)

Back in 1970, I crossed the Mont Lozere (a still snowy early spring). Remote..., at least for us kids.

They are included.
Pic de Finiels is the top of Mont Lozère, 1699 is the data I got (instead of 1702 m). Mont Aigoual is included in the Lozère region.
I will try to improve this page with picture !

I remember leaving Le Pont de Monvers, heading N. Maybe it wasn't early spring, but late winter, I'm not sure. It rained, turned into snow around 1300m, but finally cleared up. By the time we arrived to one of the summits we were treading heavy snow, still there from the winter (maybe enough to raise the summit above 1700m, who nows!). Descending on the N side was easy to find, and soon populated (ski).
Did you visit the Lozère region?

I have been in the region but a very long time ago, as I was a kid. Otherwise I have walked extensively the Auvergne region (see my Cantal album).
Yes, the climate is quite different than what we can get in other mountains of France...

Haven't read the book by Robert Louis Stevenson -yet.
Apparently the part of that route which we followed was what he did on Sept 28, 1879, only reversed.
I wonder if it's still that wild.

I visited Auvergne also a few times, as part of a group of kids (we would sleep in barns, crossing many nice hills and forests).

Nowadays the way of Stevenson has become an official long distance trail named the GR70
