1st peak of the day  Sucess!

Hiked in from the south and it took two hours and ten minutes to ascend. The fields of wildflowers were excellent on the approach, particularly near the lake. I did Bunsen later in the day.

nice hike  Sucess!

started from Canyon campground, via Cascade Creek trail. Much of view obscured by smoke from Cygnet, Range, Dewdrop and Dewdrop II fires. Definitely still worthwhile.

Observation Peak  Sucess!

Hiked up Observation Peak from the road to Dunraven pass. We first went to Cascade Lake then on up to the mountain. It was beautiful. We saw a white tail deer, and a black bear. The view from the top was beautiful. The wind blew all day and was especially bad on top. After reaching the top we had to hike down part way to get out of the wind so we could eat our lunch. There was a bear who hiked up the trail before us. We could see his foot prints in many places on the trail on top of the foot prints of the hikers who were about a half hour ahead of us.

Cascade Lake Trail  Sucess!

Hiked to Observation Peak via the Cascade Lake trail. Not very many people were up there. Saw a doe with two fawns in the morning and a bison laying down on the trail in the afternoon.

Cascade Lake Trail  Sucess!

Did this hike both summers I worked in the park. This was a popular after-work hike for all of the employees at Canyon. I always seemed to get lucky and see a moose every time I went to Cascade Lake.

Cascade Lake Trail  Sucess!

Hiked it twice. Once minimalist/solo camping at the top (summer 2000) and once with a group of employees from Canyon AmFac Housekeeping (summer 2001).

A necessary break-in  Sucess!

Hiked up with a co-worker from Lake Lodge with our intent to camp near the summit. Our plans changed when huge thunderstorms started rollin our way. So I simply broke into the shelter, where we'd stay the night. The shelter was very nice as we took full advantage of the amenties inside including ramen noodles, heat from the wood burnin stove, bunk beds, and excellent views from inside after I removed the boarded up windows.

Hit up the trails with my boy, this was the summit near our work...a 5 minute drive, so we cruised down after our shift in the lodge and just snatched this summit in a few hours. Sketchy approach near the top, but we found it through perseverance.

Made the easy hike up Observation Peak after camping at Cascade Lake the previous evening. Nice views from the summit, and the wildflowers were outstanding.
