Reef octopus - Szirti polip (to 1,4 m) Often with large oval spots on each side above base of arms. Inhabits shallow protected to exposed reefs, from shoreline to over 25 m. Territorial, entrance of den often marked by midden pile of mollusc and crustacean shells. Usually hidden in crevices and holes by day, but also sit in open with eyes held high to surves surroundings. Often reddish-brown with smooth skin, but may instantly change colouer and skin texture. Often mimics dead coral. Feeds primarily on crustaceans, occasionaly on molluscs and fishes. Range: Red Sea to Polynesia.
