That would be my guess with those subsummits. Does it seem plausible based on where you were in the flight?

Thanks for a general direction. I'll check it out on Google Earth. It was on a flight from Anchorage to Dillingham...so it could be:)

Yes! You were right:) I just found another photo on-line verifying it. Thank you for your help. Awesome looking mountain! Where exactly is it located?

But, it looks more like Mount Rainier.

Notice the steep glacial cirque to the left,
almost like 'Willis Wall.'

Yep it's Iliamna. Sweet looking volcano! I wonder how often it is climbed?

How often climbed ... I'd guess once every five or ten years. The guy who could answer is "SteveGruhn" on SP. Iliamna is one of the parade of Aleutian Range volcanoes going down Cook Inlet--you've got Spurr and Hayes directly across from Anchorage, Redoubt (the real Ranier lookalike) across from Kenai, and then Iliamna, which is prominent from Homer. It's a gorgeous mountain from there. http://www.knobhillguesthouse.com/homer-accommodation/homer-ak-7.jpg Sometimes I can see it from Anchorage if there's an atmospheric lens to bring it above the horizon, or if I'm on something high.

Afterthought:

I'm glad you found the name!

I'd like to visit Homer one of these days,
and I'm not talkin' about 'Homer Simpson!"

: ))
