| Hiked up from the gate. My first real hike of 2013 since Utah has been a deep freeze all of January. It was nice to get away from the snow and parka condition weather. Dennis Poulin was hiking up East Ord Peak at the same time and we kept in contact via cell phone which was fun. Great views at the top and I found the register and a couple benchmarks. | |

| Up from the gate on the Ord Mountain Road on the way back from Thanksgiving weekend in the Mojave desert. Watched the sunset from the summit, very nice. | |

| I didn't have a map but followed my nose and ended up repeating Dennis Poulin's road route all the way up. Up: 2 hours, down: 1 hour. No restrictive signs anywhere. A nice road hike up some stark desert slopes. Beautiful early-morning and cool, especially for late May when the heat is supposed to already be here!
