...at an average grade close to 900' per mile, with sections as steep as 1800' per mile, this is a great training hike... and close enough to walk over to. I've hiked "A" trail over 200 times over the last couple of years... might hit it that many times in 2013?
An Alamogordo favorite, if you will, and an overall nice hike to get some exercise and elevation in a pretty fast time: about 4 hours round trip, maybe more if you go slow or sit on top a while. Great summit views, and some interesting features on the hike up, like an old mine around 1,000' up, and a large crack or fissure in the rock about 1900' up. It is a shame the trail is really an eroded ATV track, but you can't miss it.
