Like the name says...
This is an awesome magazine for people who like to backpack and explore the great outdoors. The articles are well written and interesting. Each month the magazine highlights different wilderness destinations around the continent. I enjoy reading about new places to go and looking at their beautiful photos.

Both novice and more advanced outdoor enthusiasts should find the tips and techniques very informative. They include useful suggestions for a wide variety of topics such as cross training, medical advice, ways to reduce pack weight, wildlife tips, and camp recipes.

Lastly, I find their gear reviews and their Gear Guide (March edition) in particular to be very useful.

Great mag!
I'm a subscriber, and I don't plan on canceling any time soon! Gear reviews, destinations, training tips... they've got it all and they present it well.

Good info
Got a free copy of this from Eastern Mountain Sports. Wasn't really interested until I opened it up and looked at it. Now I've got a subscription to it. As a "newbie" to the great sport of hiking/backpacking...I find it has a lot of info for me...and stuff I'll use later. Hope to be able (when the kids get older) to travel to some of the spots that they highlight.

Good basic hiking and backpacking magazine
I have some of the original year issues and I would still subscribe if we didn't have the Internet ;)

As others have mentioned, my favorite sections even today are the Gear Reviews and focus articles on Best Place to Hike etc. I subscribe to their online newsletter so I just go online and read what I want.

Nice to read
I really enjoyed just flipping through this magazine and managed to get several ideas from it over the years. It has a lot to offer and is pretty cheap. I wish that they would stop calling me to renew though!!!

Good Read
I look forward to gear review (and price list) issue every year. They always have good gear reviews and some of the articles are good reads. I also enjoy the 'scenario' pages (You're stranded on a mountaintop in a snow storm: do A) try to find your footsteps or B) dig a snow cave and wait for the storm to die down?) They can be a lot of fun and I find myself reading them out loud to my family like quiz game.
