The Garmont Pinnacle 4-season boot is almost perfect for general winter walking and easier glacier travel.
The upper is made from 2.8mm suede leather and is protected by a high rubber rand that extends all the way around the boot.
Gore-Tex controls water penetration so dry feet are guaranteed. Underfoot a very aggressive sole unit is provided for traction in snow.
What I especially like though is the stiffness and precurvature of the sole, which allows a comfortable rolling action while enabling the boot to hold a good edge on snow slopes. Comfort is great too thanks to the double tongue. Use this boot for mixed mountaineering, glacier travel and winter walking and you won’t be disappointed. Honestly not recommended for long walking.
The price is good. 160 euros (in Italy). But for this price there are some other slightly lighter boots than the Garmont Pinnacle, with better crampon attachment. Some boots have a slightly more aggressive sole unit, or higher ankle support for those who prefer a little more grunt for the worst of winter mountain terrain.
