Features

Layer up and lessen the load. The Patagonia Micro Puff Vest is light and packable, making it ideal for trips that require potential peeling as well as core warmth. This vest is highly compressible, making it a no-brainer when going deep with a pack on your back. It's also highly adaptable to moist conditions, whether they be sweat or snow. Synthetic insulation in the vest will work with the water to work just as good (some say better) than if it's dry.

Great Winter Layer Vest!
I was very happy with this vest as a under/mid layer peice beneath my slim fitting Arteryx Theta AR shell (I'm medium but I sized down to small in the Theta to get a better slim fit-The 2008 Theta AR proshells are cut big as well). For $100 you can't get better than this for basic winter rec. gear. The alpinista pro's (Patagucci's golden boy Steve House excluded)usually go for the Montbell UL or ID vests but I think this holds up well for normal sub alpine winter temps.

PROS: Slim and light. Plenty of colors to pick from. Relatively cheap for Patagania ($100 at store or $40-$80 brand new on eBay)
Pockets are cool. Proportionately sized arm holes (not too big) so warmth is kept in and cold out.

CONS: Higher and/or fleece lined collar would be nice. Nylon picks up all manner of dirt, sweat and grease really quickly and easy. Poor DWR durability (or lack of proper treatment) limits how you can wear/layer this vest(mid layer under a waterproof shell is best in extreme or wet conditions). Silky soft outer nylon is not all that tough relative to other similar vests (see my reviews for the Mammut Stratus vest) but feels great when layered under jacket. Also lack of dual belay zip combined with the short length, two things that are not sit-harness friendly, makes it not the ideal vest for ice climbing when compared to other similar vests.

This is the older model from 2004 that I owned briefly and sold off on eBay a few years ago.
