Packard Peak

Packard Peak

As I was ascending up the western flank of Pinyon Peak, I turned and saw this shot of Packard Peak. Packard Peak sits directly over the town of Eureka and at 7828 feet, has 888 feet of prominence. I noted a tower structure of some type on its summit. 3-28-09

Structure at the top

I just climbed Packard yesterday and the structure on top is an old airplane beacon. There is a rotating spotlight on it. From the looks of it, it has not been used in a long time. Now there appears to be a small microwave structure affixed to it with a small solar panel
