Palmer  Sucess!

Perfect spring summit. Open timber down below and firm snow up top. Nice rocky summit block with 360 views.

Palmer  Sucess!

I really underestimated this peak - it was a very enjoyable scramble with great views, and had a decidedly alpine feel to it, despite the modest elevation at the summit. We stayed on the 'road' (more of a trail) about 0.6 miles past the recommended turnoff, and rejoined the route at about 1400'. Please note that the roads on Palmer look quite different from what is presented on the USGS maps. We were able to follow game trails for most of the route to the snowline at about 3500' - a little work with a pruning saw and survey tape would go a long way toward improving this approach. At the summit, we elected to scramble up from the east (a little class 3), as this felt safer than traversing around on the steep snow slopes on the south side of the summit block.

Tough Day!  Sucess!

It was one heck of a day for me! Tons of snow I had to plow by myself, plus I had some bad cramps. But I was impressed by the mountain, good views, fun climb, sadly terrible ending on the trip not because of the mountain.
