Overview
Also nobady knows, but Brazil is country where rock climbing is very developed. In Brazil we have great kind of rock mountais to climb. Since boulders to 1500 meters big walls.
The most developed kind of climb is the sport climb. The sport climbing places are situated close to Big cities, such as Curitiba, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte. Althought most of places to climb are inside Rio de Janeiro, with it’s geography incorporating mountain and sea.
Cuscuzeiro Peak is the first of a serie of Brazilian rock mountains I want to show you.
I’m collecting photos, geographicalc and climbing information to show you guys that not only on Andes, North America, Europe and that classical places have mountains to climb!
Climbing is more than going up a hill, is a cultural exchange.
Who don’t go up the hill, don’t perceive the plain.

Morro do Cuscuzeiro
Cuscuzeiro’s peak name cames from Cuscus, that is a kind of a indian cake very appreciated in Brazil that have that plateau form.
Cuscuzeiro in not a peak, but a testimony plateau. It’s origin is relationated with tectonics plates ascendent movevements on the Paraná sedimentary basin.
The tectonical movements dropped up a sedimentary plate and formed the paulistan cuesta, that is a bruptely scarp skething from the periferical depression of São Paulo State.
That scarp have been eroding sice remote ages. The most resistent places still subsists and form a testimony plateau, as Cuscuzeiro.
Cuscuzeiro is located in a small town called Analândia, with 3.5 thousend inhabitants, about 250 from São Paulo. It Has 900 meters altitude, 150 meters of elevation, but only 80 meters of rock sandstone climbing with more than 20 routes to climb with dificults coming from 5.9 to 5.13 of very cool sport climbing!
Getting There
Arriving in Brazil, you must go to São Paulo, the capital of São Paulo State, the most developed State of Brazil.
In São Paulo, you must go to Tietê Bus station and look for Cidade Azul bus company, and buy a ticket to Rio Claro, 200 Km distance from São Paulo, and 2 half hours by free way.
Rio Claro is a medium size city with 180.000 thousend inhabitants. From Rio Claro Bus Station leaves the bus to Analândia. There is only twice departures per day. 08:00 and 13:10. So you must take the 10:00 hours bus in São Paulo to get there.
Arriving in Analândia There is a unpaved road that leaves you to Cuscuzeiro Peak. By foot taks about 30 minutes walk.
All this will cost you only 10 bucks!
Red Tape
To climb in Cuscuzeiro you must pay a fee of 3 reais per day. That is less than one buck. To climb and camp you pay 5 reais.
There is camping place with bathrooms and cold shower.
