ApproachTake hwy out of Durango, north to Engineer Mountain past Purgatory ski resort. The road makes a sharp turn to the right below Engineer. The parking area is to the left down a small section of road that will be blocked by a gate. You can enter Cascade canyon by walking further up the road and finding a way through the snow. This will lead to the bottom of the canyon. Or you can walk back up the road for about 5 minutes where you will see a drive or entrance on the left. Walk down and find the top of the canyon and rappel in.
Route DescriptionThe route has great vertical waterfall ice. Mixed climbing is possible. There are usually several falls that can be climbed. Climbs range in difficulty from WI2-5
Essential GearUsual ice climbing...rope, screws, technical ice axes, crampons. Double boots or plastic recommended if bottom is wet. There is a small creek that flows through there. You may be belaying in or near water.
