Introduction

This page was created out of love. My love of hiking, the outdoors, and beautiful New Hampshire. I have been lucky enough to grow up with Mount Monadnock in my backyard, and appreciate that the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway(M-S Greenway) allows me to hike through the beautiful outdoors of New Hampshire.

Parts of the following text have been taken from the MSGTC website as well as the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway Trail Guide.

What is the M-S Greenway?

The Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway is a hiking trail linking Grand Monadnock with Mount Sunapee in South central New Hampshire. It is nearly 50 miles long, winding along the Monadnock Highlands that divide the Connecticut and Merrimack River drainages.

Map/Camping

See link below for trail map.

There are several campgrounds/shelters along the way. Please only camp in designated areas. The MSGTC website has great description and pictures of the shelters.

Monadnock Sunapee Greenway Trail Club

The Monadnock Sunapee Greenway Trail Club (MSGTC) was formed in the Fall of 1994. Their mission is to continue trail maintenance efforts, support our volunteers, trail adopters and promote awareness of this beautiful, remote, well kept secret - "The Greenway".

This Club hopes to build local and regional recognition of its existence and mission to promote the Greenway. The hope is that through their efforts the club will be able to continue the tradition that our predecessors established. They welcome anyone interested in learning more about hiking, outdoor recreation, education in trail maintenance and will show support for the club and the Greenway.

Care, Concern, and Respect

Over 80 private landowners have voluntarily agreed to host the trail and, in some cases campsites, on their land. Through cooperation with these folks, a pretty good hiking route has been established. However, most of these agreements are revocable. If the Greenway is not treated with respect, and there are problems such as parking congestion, litter, and vandalism, then the Greenway concept will not work because landowners will not trust the sponsors and users of the trail.

It is essential that hikers using this trail understand that much of it passes over private land, and that they must demonstrate care, concern, and a high degree of respect for the private property over which they travel to assure the continued existence of the Greenway.
