| Kruck | Pawnee Pass ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 12, 2008 | |
| Nice hike to the pass, then to top of Pawnee Peak. Later went to Shoshoni. Had Pawnee Peak to ourselves as my wife an I started at 5 a.m. to avoid the crowds. Good glissading on the way down. One sitting glissade that turned into full self-arrest when speed got too great with no good runout, then three standing mini-glissades down to Lake Isabelle, eschewing the trail. Beautiful, cloudless day. | ||

| Forgot my camera so have no pics of the great day we had on the standard route. An absolutely gorgeous hike. First time I had been in the Lake Isabel drainage. Had plans to go over to Toll, but it got too late and I had a rook with me who was spent. | ||

| The connecting ridge between Pawnee and Little Pawnee Peaks is an excellent, fun scramble. Although Roach rates it as "difficult 3rd class", most others who have done the traverse seem to agree that it is better described as 4th class. A 3rd class route probably exists, but routefinding can be a bit tricky. | ||

| Biked in from the gate and hiked up the east ridge. Weather was windy, overcast and snowy all day. The few inches that fell during the day made the traverse interesting, but was doable. Just had to be very careful on some of the north facing ledge traverses. A little more snow and this will be one tough route. One of my favorite climbs. No views all day! | ||

| Fun little route from Little Pawnee. Too bad the ridge is so short. Climbed with my wife and included Shoshoni as well. | ||

| It took me three attempts to reach the peak. Turned around by white-out conditions and lightening the previous times. | ||

| Great day of hiking. It became very windy once we were nearing Pawnee Pass. Made for a little struggle to the top, but worth it. Beautiful blue skies and views. | ||

| Climbed this today with pksander. Nasty rainy day in Boulder, but tons of fresh snow was dumping up there. There was 8" on the ground near the summit by noon with whiteout conditions. Very fun day... winter is finally here :-). | ||

| I hiked Pawnee with the Colorado Mountain Club. The day started out foggy and wet down in Denver, but the sky cleared up dramatically once we got up in the mountains and rose above the clouds. The hike itself was great, not too difficult at all, and the weather was gorgeous, though it was very windy at Pawnee Pass. When we arrived at the summit, we could see that the plains were still socked in. Heh. That's what you get for staying down there. | ||

| Somewhat windy day, but a beautiful hike. Tundra and some trees changing color: made for some nice scenery. Great views from the summit. Not too crowded, considering it was Labor Day. | ||

| Very beautiful trail. This is an underrated hike. In my opinion is one of the prettiest I have ever done anywhere. Caught some absolutely spectacular reflection photos of Navajo Peak on the way up. A very calm, clear morning. Dark stormclouds unfortunately cancelled our plan to continue to Toll and loop down to Blue Lake. Instead, back at Pawnee Pass, I took a short 10 minute scramble up to Point 12,878 immediately above the pass on the ridge to Shoshoni. There is a cool airy look down a very steep couloir on the west side of the Divide from here. | ||

| Another great summer trip with Frank. Hiked over the pass friday night and camped at Pawnee lake. Saturday we hiked over to Crater Lake and Lone Eagle. Sunday back over the pass and hit the summit of Pawnee peak. Best weather you could ask for, sunny and no wind! | ||

| Started the day with this ridge ending with Audubon via Crooked Couloir. This is a sweet route with fun route finding and the possibility of increased grade depending on ones choice. | ||

| The high winds were still there making for a short summit stay. Lots of snow of the trail up to Pawnee Pass made it much more exciting than last year's hikes in the area. Our decent was down the steeper north side which led us to the saddle between Pawnee and Toll. The wind, snow, and clouds discouraged us from a Toll summit. From the saddle, our decent towards Blue Lake was 70% glissade and 30% snow walking! I'd highly recommend this loop to anyone hiking Pawnee! | ||
