Two hikers going up the Pearly Gates. It might look easy but all that snow was frozen ice. One mistake and fumaroles were waiting for you at the bottom.

Thank you for your comment. At that point the berschrud didn’t look very bad, as in deep or wide. But who knows? One would have to be inside to see how difficult is to get out. Regardless, that section during that day seemed very slow and risky. One guide told me on the hogsback that the mountain changes every year therefore the easiest ascent route varies from season to season.
