There were fires near Sun Valley that pushed smoke into the area and made the views a little worse. I was with my dad and he opted not to hit the summit as the ridge got a little sketchy. Still had fun.
I enjoyed the left fork of fall creek- pretty classic Idaho alpine valley with plenty of elk. The peak itself was not overly interesting to climb (and some of the talus a little unpleasant) but great views into the heart of the Pioneer range. Pleasant weather and good fun as usual with splattski
Our boots were the first to cover old (and new) elk tracks on the trail up Left Fork. We regretfully disturbed a big herd (they were on the trail- sorry!) but carried on up some gnarsty talus. Then passed the goat beds in the tundra to the summit. Almost windless, but a low cloud deck obscured the very tops of the Lost River range. Back down a slightly different way and counted 10 goats on the way home. Fleur was awesome.
Hiked into the very scenic Left Fork of Fall Creek, and then climbed the west ridge (mostly class 2) to the summit. Great views in all directions. From there we tried to traverse the ridge south to Pk 11600’. Lot’s of route-finding along the ridge slowed us down, so after a couple hours we bailed down a steep gully to Surprise Valley. Awesome day with Steve G. Trip Report.
