Pequeño Alpamayo Glacier, Bolivia

This photo shows the scale as well as the gentle gradient of the Pequeño Alpamayo Glacier. Take a look at the climbers in the lower-right hand corner to get an idea of the glacier's size.

As you can see in the photo, from the base of the mountain the summit block is hidden. All of the iconic photos taken of Pequeño Alpamayo are from the crest of the false summit. After that point, you have to descend an easy 150 foot rock wall, and then start the climb up the infamous ridge-line.
