Breakfast with Midi Ossau  Sucess!

We set off from the Pombie hut at 7am and were at the summit within the hour.(450m of ascent). Very windy and a hazy horizon, but sun too. We could see for miles (kilometres!) including Vignemale to the north and the little peak we'd climbed last weekend - Pico de los Monjes in Spain.

And of course, all in the company of the super-impressive Pic de Midi d'Ossau.

We had decided to do this easy trip (starting from the road at Soques - 1h 45m to the hut/621m of ascent - the evening before) to check-out Ossau for the future.

The Pombie hut is super-guay. Wonderful. We had forgotten to confirm our booking, but they found us a place anyway and the food was good too!

After chatting with folk over supper we've now got a good idea of what doing Midi d'Ossou will require. I'm talking of the "walkers" route, not any of the climbing routes, of which there are many. The walkers route is somewhat complicated and has climbing grade II moves. And when the route is busy there is a great danger of falling rock. It is only for the prepared and the experienced. We can do it! But now its for next year.

After the sumit we completed a circuit of the peak via the Lac de l'Iou (about 2 hours). Back to the hut by midday and return to the car by 3pm.
