I can't tell how to create a specific album or anything. Can't see how to bulk upload images.

Can I use the forum control tags for a TR?

I go to TR page, no controls to create a new one. Nothing. I go to my images, again the same thing, no upload controls.

My urge to post a TR here pretty much evaporated when I realized how much work its going to take. I can do the same work to a forum board with a 3rd party image host in about 10 minutes.

So.... anyone care to get me started?

THanks

You might try mvs's bulk uploader, though earlier versions had some bugs: http://www.summitpost.org/article/488357/summitpost-bulk-uploader.html.

I usually just do it one at a time, adding to the page itself and utilizing the
"Add Another Image to..." link that pops up when the image uploads. That saves you going to Create Page each time and then manually attaching images.

It's slow, so I usually make sure I've got the newspaper or breakfast nearby.

I also sometimes open multiple tabs and upload that way, which can save a lot of time.

Edit: The bulk uploader might be nice if you have a lot of pictures to add, as in 15+, say. Otherwise, it's probably not worth it, but don't tell mvs I said that.

I'm catching up on TRs etc at the moment, (have spent too much time on PnP recently Embarassed ).

It does take time, and I still have some queries that I am going to post on this Forum soon.

But my basic technique is to:

Preparation

1. Open a new folder on my PC.

2. Copy all photos that I want to use into it, at the full size I want them to be uploaded to SP at.

3. In the same PC folder I write the commentary to go on the TR, complete with the headings I consider appropriate.

I doing the above I am referencing back to the photos I plan to upload to get an idea of where I want them to appear in my TR.

I am not doing photo captions at this point in time.

The above may take me a few days on and off, but as yet I have not gone near SP. It's all been done on my PC. I check the photos, usually removing some that don't fully tie in with the text, and also re check the text for content, spelling etc.

Upload to SP

1. Open new page via "create page". Load all the text along with all the headings. I use copy/paste from my PC folder to do this. That is very quick. And satisfying as the bulk of the wording is posted within minutes!

2. Then add new images, one at a time. I try and do that quickly, adding short captions as I do each one. As Bob says, after each image is loaded, go to the top of that image page and click on "load another image" that speeds things up.

3. When all images are uploaded, open each image and note the SP number for each one. If you chose a quiet time for SP, (ie. circa 09.00 GMT), you can get consecutive numbers! Very Happy

4. Then I put images where I want them in the text. I do the first using "insert image" from the editor, then use copy/paste so I can put them exactly where I want them in the text. Having the SP numbers allows me to do that without having to go back to any of the images.

5. Now the hard part. I go back and make changes to the text I had posted at the start to "fill in gaps" between the photos and to make sure the text reads correctly for the photos it appears next to. That is what takes a lot of the time for me.

Not sure if this is what you want Dingus?

Lolli has helped me a bit with the procedures I use! Thank you Lolli. Very Happy

I found the bulk uploader to be useful. Perhaps the best feature is that it writes back a list of the image numbers. However, if you do the uploads in a busy time, the loader may get an error message occasionally, and won't write those particular image names-- even the images are eventually loaded.

I don't submit much, but when I do, I make a "custom object" first, then change the type to mountain page or whatever later on.

Thanks guys for talking about the Bulk Uploader (I am the author of it). In recent days I've added some features: MBPost support, international character support and ability to read metadata (IPTC) from the JPEG files. That way, if you attach title/description in Picasa or Lightroom then you don't have to type them again in the Bulk Uploader.

I've seen what MoapaPk is talking about...an error message, but the picture ultimately did upload. Now that I've restarted development, I will try to fix this bug. I agree, it's that list of the image numbers in a format ready to be inserted into a tr as images that is the most useful, and I hate when I get an error and an image doesn't appear in that list.

Bob, let me know if you are seeing any other issues that get in your way, you mentioned that there were some bugs...and yes...please do tell me what is getting in your way! I wrote it exactly to support folks like yourself who create lots of good content. I figure the less time you sit manually uploading pictures one by one the more good work we'll get out of ya! Very Happy

That is extremely useful. Irfanview and a lot of free photo editors let you put the IPTC caption right in the jpeg; you can see the photo as you are adding the caption.

BTW, I've uploaded a new version of the Bulk Uploader that fixes the issue MoapaPk talks about. Thanks again all for the feedback and usage!

Cheers, Roger
